Teach us, O Lord, as Thou deservest;

To give and not count the cost;

To fight and not heed the wounds;

To toil and not seek for rest;

To labour and not ask for any reward

Save that of knowing that we do Thy will.

‘Prayer of Generosity’ (1548), St Ignatius Loyola (1491-1556)

There are many ways to give at Sacred Hearts. Whether volunteering one’s time for a charitable cause, taking Communion to the housebound, or giving to the weekly offertory collection, giving comes in many forms. Included in this section are just some of the ways Sacred Hearts makes giving possible through charitable donations, parish collections and special appeals.

We welcome your ideas and initiatives as to how all  people in our community may serve and be served.

For further information on giving, please contact the Parish Office (01242 524932).

Supporting the Parish Financially

The work of the parish is supported entirely by the generosity of its members.  The parish does not receive grants from the Diocese or from the State. Indeed our parish, like all parishes in Clifton Diocese, pays a monthly levy (Parish Share) to help fund the central works of the Diocese, like the Departments for Adult Education & Evangelisation, Finance, Schools & Colleges and Property Services

Some parishioners make their support by simply placing money in the collection bags at Sunday Mass. Obviously their generosity is much appreciated. However it is of greatest help to the parish if donations are able to be made by Offertory Envelopes or by Standing Order.  Donations made in this planned way helps the parish to budget its expenditure and also may benefit from the Gift Aid scheme

Gift Aid

The government’s Gift Aid scheme is one of the most important sources of revenue for our parish. By making use of it, tax-payers are able to increase the value of their donations to the parish by 25% at no additional cost to themselves.  Through the Gift Aid scheme the Government refunds to a charity – in this case, our parish – the tax that has already been paid on money which is donated by individual donors. The Gift Aid scheme can be used to increase the value of one-off donations; offerings made in the Sunday Collection at Mass; and also Mass Offerings. All that is necessary is that you make your donation in a way that means it can be recorded – eg by Standing Order; in an Sunday Offertory envelope; or in one of the one-off Gift Aid envelopes available in the church.

You can find detailed information on the Gift Aid scheme from the Government website here.

We appreciate all the support received from our parishioners and visitors to our Church throughout the year.  These donations along with the rental fees from the hall and the subscriptions from the squash and racket ball club for the upkeep of our Church and facilities and to support parish initiatives for the benefit of our community.

Donations may be given at weekend Masses.  Standing Orders and Weekly Envelopes may be arranged through the Parish Office.

If you are able to Gift Aid your donation, this will be much appreciated, as this allows us to claim at extra 25p. on every £1 you give from the Treasury.

Please print and complete the gift aid form Gift Aid Standing Order Instruction Form 2020.  Sign the form and send the original to The Parish Treasurer, Parish of Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, Moorend Road, Charlton Kings, Cheltenham GL53 9AU • Tel: 01242 524932

Sacred Hearts supports local and UK charities and many good causes internationally. We contribute to charities, special appeals (e.g. natural disasters, wars/conflicts), local outreach programmes,  overseas missions and other worthy causes through second collections at Mass. We raise funds and build awareness for charities and non-profits through quiz nights, cakes sales and other events.

Charitable donations are considered throughout the year by the Parish Finance Committee, with charitable funds being raised through many of the activities done on behalf of the parish, including the Justice and Peace Group and proceeds from the yearly operations and activities of the bar and hall.

We are a giving parish, not only with funds but with our time, effort and prayers. This is no more apparent than during our summer fete,  which, through happy and willing volunteers, has provided significant donations to a number of charities including  MindSong, Bees Abroad, the COBALT Foundation, Winston’s Wish, Open Door, Gloucestershire Air Ambulance, MacMillan Trust, Nazareth House, Sue Ryder among others. We would particularly like to thank local businesses and organisations who support the fete each year so generously for the betterment of those in need.

For further information on Sacred Hearts’ charitable support, please contact the parish secretary, Linda Portwain, on 01242 524932 or email Parish office

200 Club

The 200 Club was first set up in April 2006 with the purpose of raising funds to help finance specific projects for the parish church, hall and site..

Money raised over the years have gone towards refurbishment, decoration, the purchase of new chairs for the hall and bar and refurbishment of the kitchen.

In 2017, it funded the installation of the choir loft screen and in April 2018 has contributed towards the cost of installing roller blinds in the church.

The Big project for 2018 will be to fund the installation of a new sound system in the church.

Over the years the 200 Club, through the contributions of its members, has raised money to help finance many projects, around the parish site.
