Eucharistic Ministers assist with the distribution of Holy Communion, under both kinds, at Mass, and also take the Eucharist to the sick and housebound on Sundays.
New Ministers follow a short training programme before being commissioned.
Ministers are then recommissioned each year at Corpus Christi.
A Day of Recollection is held each year for Ministers throughout the Deanery, and support and advice are always available from experienced Ministers.
A three-month rota is sent out to all Ministers; every effort is made to accommodate Ministers’ availability, but it is always possible to swap a duty if an allocated time is unsuitable.
Taking the Eucharist to those in nursing homes or hospital, or to parishioners who are housebound, may take between half an hour and an hour on a Sunday morning, but this is a vital part of the parish’s ministry, and very much appreciated by those who are visited.
